Marathon Training: The Importance of Listening to Your Body

As marathon training reaches its final weeks, it's not uncommon for runners to experience fatigue and various aches and pains. During this time, it's crucial to listen to your body and adapt your training accordingly to avoid causing any further damage or injury.

This morning, I woke up still feeling very chesty and decided to switch my rest day with my intervals day. It wasn't an easy decision to make, especially so close to the big day, but I knew that my body needed the rest. It's been a tough week and a half with running, and I didn't want to risk hampering my recovery any further.

It's important to remember that there's no shame in modifying your training schedule when your body needs it. Resting and taking a break doesn't mean you're slacking off or giving up. It means you're taking care of yourself, which is essential in the final stages of marathon training.

It's also important to note that every runner's body is different. What works for someone else may not work for you, and that's okay. You need to learn to listen to your body and make adjustments accordingly. Trust your instincts, and don't be afraid to seek help from a professional if needed.

As I continue my marathon training, I'm reminded of the importance of listening to my body. It's not always easy, but it's necessary for success. With two and a half weeks to go, I'm hopeful that my decision to switch my rest day with my intervals day will prove to be beneficial.

In conclusion, if you're training for a marathon or any other athletic event, remember to listen to your body. Take rest days when needed, and don't push yourself too hard. You don't want to risk injury or hamper your recovery, especially so close to the big day. And finally, don't forget to take care of yourself both mentally and physically, so you can be in the best possible shape for your race.

P.S. Don't forget that you can still donate to the Sittingbourne Carnival Court via my GoFundMe page. Every little bit helps, and it's for a great cause!
